Beer of the Week: G-Mac’s Celtic-Style Pale Ale, by GolfBeer.

Story: In honor of this weekend’s World Golf Championship-Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral, here’s a beer that has golf at its core. Pro golfers Graeme McDowell, Keegan Bradley and Freddie Jacobson have collaborated on three new brews under the GolfBeer brand, brewed at the new Brew Hub facility in Lakeland.

G-Mac’s Celtic-Style Pale Ale is my favorite of the trio, which includes Keegan Bradley’s New England-Style Lager and Freddie’s Scandinavian-Style Blonde Ale. McDowell, an Irish native who lives part-time in Florida and owns a tavern in Orlando, says he wanted to put his name to something approachable but with some punchy hops. Mission accomplished.

Pairing: At a sessionable 5 percent alcohol by volume and pretty subtle citrus hops, G-Mac’s Pale Ale can hang with most foods without getting in the way. A particularly good match for it is the shrimp-quinoa salad with passion fruit dressing at Giraffa’s (multiple locations).

Price: About $10 for a six-pack of 12-ounce cans at Total Wine & More in Kendall. Also available at Trump National Doral, 4400 NW 87th Ave., site of the WGC-Cadillac Championship.
