Cedella Marley proud of documentary about her father Bob Marley
Cedella Marley appeared at the Colony Theatre in Miami Beach Monday night to pay homage to her dad.
Marley, a new documentary that opens in theaters April 20, chronicles her famous father, reggae legend Bob Marley, who died of advanced melanoma at the age of 36 in 1981. Cedella, who lives in South Miami, is one of his 11 children.
“Miami is our second home so it’s good to be bring this movie here first,” she said at the Lincoln Road spot. “Many of my dad’s friends are family are still here.”
She said the process of making the movie took a while before they found a director.
Scorcese was called and then Kevin McDonald (Last King of Scotland) took the helm.
“He did an amazing job,” she said of the director. “He’s done amazing stuff and was the right man for the job.”
Cedella had only seen Marley once because it was just “too emotional” to watch again.
“It’s hard, it’s a journey. We found out things about dad we didn’t know before,” she said. “There’s information in the movie that probably fans don’t know either.”
But she is proud of the product, released by Magnolia Pictures.
“Everything was done organically. We interviewed some amazing people. Anyone who watches it will come away learning something new. We accomplished that.”
See it at O Cinema starting Friday. Showtimes at www.o-cinema.org.
