Tiger Woods off to rehab after DUI crash. So what does his girlfriend think?
Vanessa Haydon Trump is no stranger to the spotlight, and not necessarily for the right reasons.
The former model made the gossip pages after her highly publicized divorce from Donald Trump Jr., the president’s eldest child, in 2017.
Though the mother of five managed to stay under the radar for a bit, her current boyfriend, Tiger Woods, is keeping her in the news.
The golf titan was arrested on suspicion of DUI last Friday on Jupiter Island after rolling over his SUV on a residential road. The 50-year-old father of two has since pleaded not guilty and announced he is stepping away from the sport to seek treatment.
At the crash scene, officers found two white pills marked “M365” in the PGA great’s pockets, later identified as hydrocodone, an opioid painkiller. Despite blowing 0.00 on the breathalyzer, Woods refused a urine test and was taken into custody.
In their report, Martin County deputies noted bloodshot eyes (seen in his widely publicized mug shot) and difficulty with coordination. Bodycam footage subsequently released shows Woods in the back of a patrol car looking lethargic, hiccuping and yawning.
So what does Trump think of all of this? Behind closed doors, the 48-year-old may have read him the riot act, but at least publicly she is showing her support.
In an Instagram story exactly a week after his arrest, Trump posted the same cuddly picture they released jointly coming out as a couple in March of last year.
Over the snap is a heart emoji and the words, “Love you.”
So there you have it. Trump isn’t going anywhere. For now. But an insider close to the situation tells the Daily Mail that could change on a dime.
The outlet reports that Trump has “non-negotiable rules,” including his rehab has to be legit, and not a country-club type deal.
“Obviously there’s a big physical component ... these are prescribed drugs for legitimate pain and sleeping issues,” the source said. “This isn’t meth. So this has to be doctor supervised. It’s pain management gone awry.”
This isn’t Woods’ first stint in rehab. The Masters champ sought help in 2017 after his first DUI arrest, also in the Jupiter are after police found Woods asleep at the wheel in a running car. He later said he experienced an “unexpected reaction” to a mix of prescription meds for pain and sleep following multiple back surgeries.
In his statement earlier this week announcing he was stepping away from the greens, Woods does seem to understand the severity of the most recent incident.
“I’m committed to taking the time needed to return to a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally,” the sports legend wrote to his followers. “I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time.”
