Did Cheryl Hines just get snubbed by Trump at UFC match in Miami? We break it down
Looks can be deceiving, especially on the Internet.
In a video that has now gone viral from UFC 314 in Miami at Kaseya Center on Saturday night, ESPN cameras caught what seemed to be an awkward moment.
As President Donald Trump makes his way through the crowd, he warmly greets his Secretary of Health Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Standing next the lawyer is his wife Cheryl Hines. Trump looks directly at the “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star, who has her hand out, then keeps going. Hines is left in the dust with a surprised look on her face, leading many keyboard sleuths believing the she got snubbed.
But later into the bout, Trump is captured interacting with Hines, who is seated a row behind. They converse easily; at one point she stands up and leans over to tell POTUS something in his ear.
The actress and president were also captured talking in the arena, along with RFK Jr. We even saw a possible smile or two. So apparently all is copacetic, despite some social media users thinking a feud between the two would make a great “Curb” episode.
The frenzied attention the clip has raised reminds us of what happened right around the same time last year at a different UFC matchup, also at Kaseya.
Trump was working the room when he came upon his daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner. After greeting the couple, the then Republican nominee keeps moving without acknowledging his little grandson, Joseph, then 10.
In Trump’s defense, the boy is small, and not at eye level, plus he had a few distractions including the screaming crowd, loud music (Kid Rock’s “American Bada-s”) and Secret Service hustling him along.
As for how Hines feels about being thrown into the current, highly charged political arena? She’s good at her job so we’ll never truly know. We do know the Miami Beach native has voiced her displeasure with some of Trump’s tactics in the past, especially about the way he targeted women such as Ted Cruz’s wife.
But after RFK Jr. suspended his independent campaign for president to support Trump, she released this statement:
“I deeply respect the decision Bobby made to run on the principle of unity. Over the last year and a half, I have met some extraordinary people from all parties — Democrats, Republicans and independents. It’s been my experience that the vast majority of all parties are truly good people who want the best for our country and for each other. It has been an eye-opening, transformative and endearing journey.“
