Wendy Williams’ son breaks his silence after another rare sighting of TV star in Miami

We just had another Wendy Williams sighting.

The TV personality, who stepped away from her eponymous talk show in 2021 amid health issues, attended her son’s graduation from Florida International University.

Paparazzi snapped Williams riding on a mobility scooter at the commencement ceremony, held last Thursday at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center, on FIU’s Modesto Maidique Campus in West Miami-Dade. Her son, Kevin Hunter Jr., reportedly got a degree in economics.

True to form, the 60-year-old was decked out in a shimmery gown, full makeup and long, brown wig.

A few days before that, Williams was pictured sitting in an SUV outside Sho’nuff Oysters in Fort Lauderdale, while her nephew picked up a to-go order. A restaurant worker who recognized her famous patron leaned into the car to say hello, and told her, “You look good!”

Williams, who has been under a court-ordered guardianship since April 2022 due to ongoing health problems, did indeed, but was uncharacteristically quiet and reserved.

So, how’s she doing? Because last we heard, the radio icon had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, a progressive disorder affecting behavior and cognitive functions, as well as aphasia, which affects language and communication abilities.

“Over the past few years, questions have been raised at times about Wendy’s ability to process information and many have speculated about Wendy’s condition, particularly when she began to lose words, act erratically at times, and have difficulty understanding financial transactions,” read the February statement from her reps.

After the two sightings of his mother in South Florida went viral, Hunter Jr. gave an unofficial update on Monday.

On family friend Charlamagne Tha God’s post, which showed Williams having a self-care day in Miami before Jr.’s graduation, the 24 year old took to the comments section.

“She’s sober and wants to come home,” he told inquiring fans. “We’re fighting to make that happen because isolation is killing her faster than anything else.”

It’s unclear what was meant by “home,” but in February, after her diagnosis became public knowledge, her brother told UsWeekly she was on the mend in an undisclosed treatment facility.

“When I speak to Wendy, she sounds fine,” Tommy Williams Jr. told the celebrity magazine.“I know my sister from where she was to where she is now, and she has a substantial amount of improvement.”
