Kate Hudson brings her vodka to SoBe fest: ‘I can’t wait to connect in real life again’

Kate Hudson is a mom, actress, podcaster and fashion designer, and somehow managed to also jump into the world of adult beverages.

The “Almost Famous” star is one of many celebrities who have turned their love of alcohol into a profitable business.

Many celebrities have followed George Clooney’s highly profitable trail, trying their hand at tequila; e.g., Eva Longoria (Casa Del Sol) and Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine and his wife Behati Prinsloo (Calirosa) will preside over sold-out boozy dinners at the South Beach Wine & Food Festival this weekend.

Hudson? She chose vodka, her go-to drink.

Alas, the timing for her King St. brand wasn’t great, launching right before the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns in early 2020.

“We had our launch party, then everything shut down,” says the 42 year old Los Angeles native. “I was like, Whoa! It was a really scary time for everybody.”

Now that COVID seems to be on the wane, with cases and hospitalizations decreasing by the day, Hudson is excited to bring King St. to the 21 year old fest.

On Sunday morning, the Fabletics owner will combine her love of fitness with her love of alcohol during a “yoga experience” at Nikki Beach Miami.

The Oscar nominee hopes people will be ready to enjoy themselves after such a stressful time.

“During the height of the pandemic, we were all really glued to the news and sticking to things we knew,” says the mother of three who is engaged to musician Danny Fujikawa. “Now it’s time for the food and beverage industry to restrategize, look forward and get back to a bit of normal.”

Guests attending the sold-out SOBEWFF event will note how beautiful the bottles are, decorated with colorfully pale flowers. The way feminine design was entirely on purpose.

When looking to create the vodka, Hudson found there was nothing aesthetically pleasing enough out there to showcase on her home bar.

“I had all the other stuff out, but used to hide my vodka bottles,” she said with a laugh.

What’s inside is just as gorgeous: a clean, smooth handcrafted vodka that’s distilled with alkaline water, giving it a slight, gin-like kick.

“It’s super simple,” she says of her 86-proof creation. “My goal was to make it good quality and sippable vodka that could combine with anything.”

Made in Santa Barbara, California, at Cutler’s Artisan Spirits, King St. is named after the NYC street where Hudson lived for about a decade in her 20s.

“I just remember all the parties I had there, and it takes me back to some wonderful times,” Hudson says. “I love to entertain and hope to re-create new memories. I can’t wait to feel connected in real life again.”
