We just found Miami’s perfect quarantine meal: A croqueta pizza, aka ‘croquizza’
Pizza night in quarantine just got a lot more exciting.
Miami’s Gilbert’s Bakery is rolling out not one, not two, but three personal -size pizzas.
You’ve got coquizza, croquizza and a dessert pizza.
All pies are $8 apiece and available on Fridays and Saturdays from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. for a limited time via Uber Eats, says owner Gilbert Arriaza.
The croquizza is just as it sounds: a pizza filled with croquetas. We like the sound of the croquizza milanesa, with cheese and tomato sauce. Heaven, or what?
The coquizza is inspired by a coca, often seen on menus in the Catalan region of Spain. Arriaza says you can order the flatbread style dish with classic ingredients. The antipasto coquizza features salami, pepperoni, artichoke and olives; the Ibérico has Gilbert’s signature prosciutto and manchego.
Dessert pizzas are called “Esmores” a play on the word for the classic campfire treats, s’mores. They come in chocolate, coconut dulce de leche, and guava and cheese. All are topped with toasty meringue and super decadent, meant for sharing.
“OK, pizza is from Italy. Cocas are pizzas from Spain. Coquizza are Gilbert’s Spanish pizza from Miami,” reads an Instagram post touting a few of the new meals.
If the concept takes off, Arriaza says the restaurant will consider changing things up and customizing the toppings for all three. We are so down with that.
