Change your plans: These Miami events are canceled or postponed because of coronavirus
These are events that have been canceled or postponed in South Florida due to the coronavirus and the illness it causes, COVID-19. So far three cases have been confirmed in Florida, two residents and another person who lives out of the state but is currently in Florida.
Canceled:
▪ ArtScape concert with the Miami Hot Brass band presented by Global Arts Project scheduled for March 29 in Collins Park is canceled.
▪ Calle Ocho Festival, which was scheduled for March 15 on Eighth Street in Little Havana.
▪ Miami International Map Fair, which was to take place March 13-15 at HistoryMiami.
▪ Ultra Music Festival, which was set for March 20-22 at Bayfront Park, will return in 2021.
▪ The Archdiocese of Miami has canceled all Catholic Athletic League activities until further notice, including games, practices, tournaments and Play Like a Champion Training. Parents were notified March 9.
▪ Cloud Summit technology summit, scheduled for May 12-14 in Miami Beach, has been temporarily suspended and will be rescheduled for “ early 2021.”
▪ City of Hialeah has canceled all events scheduled for the month of March.
▪ Florida National University is canceling all POWERHOUSE Meetings and Summits until further notice, including the 10 a.m. event on March 14 and the 2 p.m. meeting on March 19.
▪ The University of Miami and Unified Works canceled the two-day real estate conference the Lean Construction Symposium scheduled for March 12-13.
▪ Key Biscayne Chamber of Commerce canceled its Families in Paradise event which was scheduled for March 15.
▪ Hallandale Beach announced Monday morning that it’s postponing a town hall-style meeting about the city budget scheduled for Tuesday due to concerns about the spread of coronavirus, one day after state health officials announced a third case of COVID-19 in Broward County. The city posted on Twitter and Instagram that it was taking “precautionary measures” and that the meeting would be rescheduled.
▪ The River Cities Festival, an annual event in Miami Springs featuring music, food and art, has been canceled. It was scheduled for April 17-19. A festival organizer, Tom Curtis, said Monday that the event would be canceled, and the Miami Springs City Council voted unanimously to support the move.
▪ Surfside’s Senior Brunch Bunch and block party, has been canceled. The events were scheduled for Friday and March 19, respectively. The town says it canceled the events “in light of the global Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.”
▪ Hollywood canceled its St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival ”out of an abundance of caution due to #COVID—19,” the city tweeted Tuesday afternoon. The parade was scheduled for March 15.
▪ The 22nd Annual ArtFest in the Pines, held March 14-15, the 3rd Annual Art Competition Award Ceremony and the ArtFest Artist Dinner have all been canceled. In a tweet posted late Tuesday afternoon, the city of Pembroke Pines called “the safety and health of our residents, visitors, artists and vendors” their “utmost priority.”
▪ Senior programs at North Shore Park, Scott Rakow Youth Center and Flamingo Park have all be canceled, according to the city of Miami Beach.
▪ The city of Miami Beach has canceled special populations field trips to the Youth Fair, Flamingo West Park and Greynolds Park. They’ve also done the same for senior field trips to the Orchid Festival and Youth Fair.
▪ The Florida Mayhem Homestand Overwatch League Esports Event scheduled for March 14 at Fieldhouse at Watsco Center at the University of Miami has ben canceled.
▪ The Bass Museum in Miami Beach has canceled the following programs: Bass Babies on March 13; Art for Kids and Teen Art class on March 14; Bass Babies on March 18 and 20; spring art camps, March 23-27.
▪ O, Miami Poetry Festival, which runs throughout April, has canceled all public events.
▪ The Miami Open tennis tournament scheduled for March 23-April 5 at Hard Rock Stadium is canceled.
▪ The Miami-Dade County Youth Fair, scheduled to run through April 5, is canceled.
▪ NASCAR at Homestead-Miami Speedway set for March 20-22 will still run without fans in attendance.
▪ The Fourth Annual Sea Level Rise & Climate Change Conference scheduled for March 31 at the Four Seasons Brickell has been canceled.
▪The Miami Film Festival has canceled all remaining film screenings; information regarding tickets will be emailed directly to ticket buyers. Miami Dade College has also closed the Tower Theater Miami until further notice.
▪Florida International University has canceled or postponed all events on and off campus through April 4.
▪The Wolfsonian Museum in Miami Beach has canceled events through April 10; the museum remains open.
▪The Jewish Museum of Florida is closed until further notice.
▪ Nightclubs LIV and Story are closing until further notice.
▪ Bakehouse Art Complex has canceled all public programming and events for March and April.
▪The Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and Emanuel Ax have canceled their performance at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts on March 18; a full refund will be issued to the original form of payment within two weeks.
▪Museum of Art and Design at Miami Dade College hand MDC Special Collections are closed.
▪Broward County has canceled the Annual Water Matters Day celebration, set for March 14 at Tree Tops Park in Davie.
▪ New World School of the Arts has canceled its 2020 Rising Stars exhibition and all other events through April 5.
▪ Corporate Runs in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach have been canceled.
▪Little Haiti Cultural Center and the Caribbean Marketplace has canceled all programming and events for at least 45 days or until further notice.
▪ Equality Florida has canceled all events through early April, including its Miami Gala.
▪ The Miami Foundation has canceled its “Our Miami: The People’s Forums” series.
▪ Miami Music Project has canceled “A Symphony of Sazon” scheduled March 14 at Adrienne Arsht Center.
▪ Florida Renaissance Festival, which takes place at Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach, has canceled its final two weekends.
▪ Centro Cultural Español in the Arts & Entertainment District is canceling all programming for the next 15 days, including Microteatro.
▪ The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Miami is closed and all performances canceled until April 5.
▪ The Broward Center for the Performing Arts and Parker Playhouse in Fort Lauderdale are closed and canceling or postponing all shows through April 12.
▪ O Cinema South Beach is closed for the rest of March.
▪ All Broward County Libraries have canceled library events except early voting and voting until further notice. The libraries will remain open.
▪The Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach is closed until March 31.
▪ ArtSea Saturdays at Trump International Beach Resort is canceled for March 14.
▪The Rhythm Foundation and North Beach Bandshell are postponing or canceling all events until April 14.
▪ Miami Children’s Museum has temporarily closed.
▪ Jungle Island will close starting March 16.
▪Shake-A-Leg has canceled all programming through March 29.
▪ HistoryMiami museum in downtown Miami is closed.
▪ Time Out Market Miami in Miami Beach is closed.
▪The Lowe Art Museum at the University of Miami is closed indefinitely.
▪Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science and the Pérez Art Museum Miami are closing temporarily March 16.
▪Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is closing until March 29.
▪GableStage at the Biltmore in Coral Gables is canceling all performances of “The Price” starting March 25.
▪The Marguiles Collection in Wynwood is closed.
▪All Books & Books stores in the Miami area are closed for two weeks; you can order online at booksandbooks.com
Postponed:
▪ Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre in Coral Gables postponed its opening of “Lerner & Loew’s Camelot” until April 3, but the theater could be closed longer than that date depending on the situation, so check the website for updates. The Young Talent Big Dreams competition presented by the theater with The Childrens’ Trust shifted some of its auditions online and moved the semi-finals and finals from April to the late summer. The tentative date for the finals is Sept. 13.
▪ RetroPop Con, the ‘80s pop culture convention set for April 25 and 26 at Mana Convention Center in Wynwood, is being postponed. A new date hasn’t been selected. ▪ Doral Food & Wine Festival has been postponed until further notice. It was originally scheduled for March 21-22.
▪ eMerge Americas 2020 conference, scheduled for March 30-31 at the Miami Beach Convention Center, has been moved to Nov. 4-5.
▪ Winter Music Conference, originally scheduled for March 16-19, has been postponed.
▪Violinist Sara Caswell, who was performing as part of Miami Dade College’s “Jazz at Wolfson” series scheduled for March 18, has postponed her concert.
▪The Havasi Symphonic Concert show at Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood has been postponed from March 21 to Oct. 24. Tickets for the March show will be honored in October.
▪ The St. Patrick’s Day Festival in Coral Gables set for Ponce Circle Park has been postponed but not rescheduled yet.
▪The Annual Greater Fort Lauderdale Food & Wine Festival has been rescheduled to Aug. 5-9.
▪ The Greater Miami Symphonic Band’s “Spring Spectacular Concert” scheduled for March 17 has been canceled and tentatively rescheduled June 9.
▪ The Bass Museum has postponed the benefactor and member visit to The Bunker Artspace on March 13 and Breakfast at the Bass: Lara Favaretto on March 15.
▪ Senior “Bingo Night” and “Art Gallery Night” have been postponed, according to the city of Miami Beach.
▪ Pride of the Americas Festival has been postponed, according to organizers. It had been scheduled for April 21-26 in Fort Lauderdale.
▪Museum of Discovery & Science in Fort Lauderdale is postponing its 25th Annual Wine, Culinary & Spirits Celebration set for March 13.
▪Jazz in the Gardens, a two-day music festival set for Hard Rock Stadium March 14-15, has been postponed; no new date is set yet.
▪ Miami Heat games scheduled for AmericanAirlines Arena are on hold in accordance with the NBA decision to halt the season.
▪The Miami Home Show scheduled for March 27-29 at the Mana Wynwood Convention Center has been postponed and rescheduled for Sept. 4-7.
▪ Zoo Miami’s Feast with the Beasts set for March 13 is postponed.
▪The City of Doral has postponed events from March 13-April 18, including the Sister Cities Art Reception; Ritmo Doral; EGGstravaganza and Downtown Doral Art Walk/Earth Day
▪The AmericanAirlines Arena has suspended all major March events, including Disney on Ice, Cher and Ricardo Montaner; Tickets purchased will be honored for the rescheduled date; dates to be determined later.
▪The duo America has postponed its March 24 show at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.
▪Miami Beach Pride festival set for March 28-April 5 has been rescheduled with the new date TBA; smaller, outdoor events on March 30 will continue.
▪Aventura Arts & Cultural Center is postponing Dance Now!’s Program II Contemporanea 2020; it will be resceduled in May as part of Dance Now’s final performances.
▪Miami Symphony Orchestra is postponing all concerts from March 13-15.
▪Miami New Drama is postponing its production of “A Wonderful World” at the Colony Theatre in Miami Beach starting March 14. Tickets for March 12-13 will still be honored.
▪ Miami Lighthouse for the Blind is postponing A Cause for Whiskey & Cigars on March 26 and Music Under the Stars on May 13.
▪ Jorge Drexler has postponed his performance on March 13 at the Adrienne Arsht Center; the new date is Aug. 14 and tickets from the original date will be honored.
▪Juggernaut Theatre Company is postponing all shows of “Miami Motel Stories” starting March 14; performances will be rescheduled.
▪ Florida Supercon 2020 has postponed its May convention at the Miami Beach Convention Center until July 3-5.
▪ Coral Springs Center for the Arts in Broward County postpones all shows through March 21.
▪ North Miami Beach has postponed its Bike 305 event on March 15.
▪ The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood is postponing all shows at Hard Rock Live, DAER nightclub and the Comedy Club until April 14
▪The Miami Herald is postponing the Broward County Spelling Bee scheduled for March 17.
▪ Upcoming performances of Don Quixote at Kravis Center on March 20-22 have been postponed; performances in Broward and Miami-Dade in April have not been canceled..
▪ The Miami City Ballet Gala has been postponed and will be had at a later date not yet announced.
▪The Deering Estate has postponed the Deering Seafood Festival until Oct. 18 and Chef’s Table on the Bay until Oct. 16.
▪ Bal Harbour Village has postponed the upscale food festival Haute Cuisine, originally scheduled for May.
▪Area Stage Company has postponed its production of “Oliver!”
▪The Fort Lauderdale Air Show, scheduled for May 2-3 has been postponed until fall 2020.
▪ The alternative music and arts festival, III Points, shifts its seventh edition that was originally planned for May 1-2 to October 16-17 at Mana Wynwood. Headliners include The Strokes, Robyn, Wu-Tang Clan. New performances have been added from Rüfüs Du Sol, Artbat, Chromatics and Peaches.
