Because of coronavirus, April Fool’s Day is officially #canceled. OK, Internet?
We get it. Every day has felt like April Fool’s Day the past few weeks. But this is really it.
The origins of the only day of the year when it’s OK to prank someone and for that person not to unfriend you are unclear.
But one thing is clear today: We need to be kind and tread softly.
We can acknowledge April Fool’s Day, while not exactly putting forth any actions.
Remember the Left Handed Whopper, Burger King? We still do.
The Miami-based fast food company’s prank burger had “all condiments rotated 180 degrees, thereby redistributing the weight of the sandwich so that the bulk of the condiments will skew to the left, thereby reducing the amount of lettuce and other toppings from spilling out the right side.”
Ha-ha, almost got us. It was cute then, but that was 1998.
Because what we are living through right now is a combination of the movies “Groundhog Day” and “Contagion,” with a splash of “Armageddon” for good measure. The drama is real and it’s not funny at all.
So please refrain from sending out Tweets about the #stayathome order being lifted, Gov. Ron DeSantis taking paternity leave, or there being a magic cure for coronavirus.
#AprilFools is officially #canceled.
