Is your Miami or FLL flight affected by the plane crash? What to know about delays
The deadly crash of a commercial jetliner and a military helicopter in the Potomac River is affecting flights in South Florida. Delays and cancellations are expected through Thursday.
Here’s what to know:
Miami International Airport
At MIA, six arrivals from and three departures to Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., were canceled as of noon Thursday, according to Greg Chin, communications director for the Miami-Dade Aviation Department.
Travelers are encouraged to check with their airlines and MIA’s flight tracker for updates.
The MIA flight tracker shows expected arrivals and departures with options to use a drop-down menu to narrow results. It shows the carrier, flight number and where the plane is going to or coming from. It also gives real-time updates on a flight’s arrival or departure status, which concourse the terminal is in, and the location of baggage claim.

Washington airport
Reagan National shut down and flights were suspended Wednesday night after American Eagle flight 5342, which had departed from Wichita, Kansas, collided with an Army helicopter and crashed into the Potomac.
The American flight opreated by PSA Airlines had 60 passengers and four crew members, the Associated Press reported. Everyone on the jet and the military helicopter are feared dead.
Reagan National reopened around 11 a.m. Thursday, according to it website.
Still, at least eight flights scheduled to leave there at that time or later were already canceled, according to the airport’s website. Many others were delayed.
Fort Lauderdale International Airport
At FLL, five flights to or from Reagan National were canceled as of 11:30 a.m. Thursday, according to spokesperson Paris Tyburski. Three were arrivals and two were departures. FLL also encouraged travelers to check with their airlines.
The airport also has an online flight tracker tool. FLL’s flight tracker works by flight or route. You’ll need to know the date, along with the airline carrier and flight number or the departure and arrival airport. The tool also gives people the option to see a list of all expected arrivals and departures and details on the flight’s terminal and baggage claim, too.
