11 dogs trapped in feces-filled cages, given no water or food. Deputies came to rescue

About 11 dogs were stuffed in cages filled with feces when Broward Sheriff’s deputies came to their rescue on Wednesday. The owner of the dogs paid the price in the form of dozens of citations.

On Monday morning, BSO deputies were tipped off that there were neglected dogs at an Oakland Park home, in the 4600 block of Northeast Second Ave., the sheriff’s office said.

When deputies arrived they found about 13 dogs in multiple wooden kennels full of feces and many without food or water. Roberto Cervantes, owner of the dogs, was issued about 13 citations for animal confinement violations by Broward County Animal Care.

Although citations were given, the dogs weren’t taken.

Two days later, animal care personnel and deputies returned to the home for a follow-up inspection. They again found dogs confined in kennels without food or water. The second time around there were 11 dogs in the backyard.

This time, deputies helped animal care remove the dogs from the home. Cervantes was given 13 more citations.

The sheriff’s office is still investigating the incidents.
