This iguana isn’t like the others. He went missing, and now he’s getting love again
Few things ignite rage in Floridians quite like green iguanas. They have scales like snakes, claws like dinosaurs and an ability to get to places that really make you wonder why they even exist.
But an iguana named Smog isn’t like the others in town. Yes, he has the scales and claws, but he also loves to be rubbed.
The five-foot iguana can usually be found freely roaming around Pipe Eyes Smoke Shop in Sanford, Florida, enjoying the company of the employees who he calls family. But on Dec. 26, Smog disappeared.
Sanford police were called to the store and were told by employees that an unknown person took Smog, police said.
Two days passed and Smog was still gone. Police then got a tip that could help lead to him.
A Pet Supplies Plus store manager told police they saw a man and woman come into the store with an iguana the day Smog went missing, police said.
Officers continued their search, posting all the details they had on Facebook with some humorous hashtags like #WeIguanaFindYou.
On Monday night, Sanford police announced good news. Smog had been found safe, and was reunited with his owners.
To the tune of “Reunited” by Peaches & Herb, the police department posted a video with Smog receiving lots of caressing, being reunited with one of his owners, and a slideshow of him being the cutest iguana you may have ever seen.
Police are still conducting a criminal investigation into Smog’s disappearance.
Anyone with information on the identity of the suspects can call the Sanford Police Department at 407-688-5070.
