Detached, flying blades from ceiling fans have hit people. The fans have been recalled

A ceiling fan should cool the people in the room, not attack them. That’s why Fanim Industries recalled 70,000 48-inch Harbor Breeze Santa Ana ceiling fans.

The exact problem, as stated in the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall notice: “The fan’s blade holders can break, allowing the blade to be ejected from the fan, posing an injury hazard to consumers.”

And this isn’t an idle concern. The notice says Fanim has heard about 210 fan blades “breaking or ejecting from the fan, including 10 reports of a fan blade hitting consumers.”

This covers model No. LP8294LBN sold by Lowe’s Home Improvement stores, in brick and mortar and online, from May 2014 through January 2016. The fan is described as having “two dark walnut fan blades, brushed nickel blade arm holders and a frosted white glass globe containing a light bulb.”

Fanim, a Zionsville, Indiana, company, is offering to provide a free set of replacement blade holders. Consumers should call Fanim at 888-434-3797, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Eastern time, email recall@fanimation.com or go to the website.
