The salad has ‘all natural ingredients.’ Publix announced it’s been recalled

Publix’s website announced that Tampa company Fresco Foods has recalled all the Eat Fresco Ancient Jackfruit Bowls.

There’s a food allergy problem with the bowls, sold at Publix stores, GreenWise Markets and other stores. Among the “All Natural Ingredients” are anchovies. The packaging doesn’t tell buyers that, making the fish an undeclared allergen (and a hidden and unwelcome surprise for vegetarians).

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to fish (anchovies) run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the Publix-posted recall notice said. “Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by sourcing the wrong sub-ingredient.”

Anyone with questions can call Fresco Foods, Inc. at 813-551-2100.
