Another packaging error creates another dangerous food situation and another recall

After continuing the recent spate of packaging snafus, Trident Seafoods had to recall five lots of Gordon Choice Imitation Crab Supreme Style from 24 states.

Some of the ersatz crab that contained egg white was packaged in wrapping that didn’t declare egg as an ingredient. Egg is an allergen.

Not a problem for most people, but, as the Trident-written, FDA-posted recall notice says, “People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.”

The 24 states are Florida, Alabama, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Wisconsin and West Virginia.

This covers lot Nos. M828803, M904202, M916303, M935004, M016004. If you have no food allergy issues and won’t be feeding anyone with food allergy issues, go ahead and use the faux crab. If that’s not the case, take it back to the store for a full refund.

Customers with questions can email ConsumerAffairs@tridentseafoods.com or call 866-413-4749.
