Missing the salad bar at Publix after weeks of lockdown? It’s back (but different)
You’ve waited long enough and now they’re back in business after weeks and weeks.
We’re talking the salad bars at Publix.
Since the shelter in place orders back in March, shoppers may have noticed the bars were bare of food due to safety precautions.
On Friday, a Publix spokeswoman confirmed you can now get all the healthy fixings, from lettuce to red peppers and other veggies.
“Our current protocol is that the salad and hot bars are open for limited hours from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and again from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. each day,” Nicole Krauss, from the Lakeland, Florida, based supermarket chain told the Miami Herald.
Don’t expect self-service, however. An associate is stationed there during those two shifts to make a salad to your specifications.
Same goes with the soup station, which is open at the same times as the salad bar. The employee will ladle out the soup of your choosing into a cup.
You must continue to follow all CDC guidelines while in the store, including wearing face coverings, staying six feet away from fellow shoppers, as well as the associate serving you.
Going forward, the buffet model may not work in the coronavirus era.
For example, Sweet Tomatoes, a longtime, all-you-can-eat food staple, permanently shut its doors amid the quarantine. And Golden Corral, known for its endless offerings, will now reportedly pivot to a cafeteria-style service.
