The recalled food sold at Publix and elsewhere wasn’t in the right jars. That can be bad.
As many as 8,376 jars of what the label says is Vita Wild Herring in Wine Sauce got recalled Thursday because the jars might not have wild herring in wine sauce.
The jars might have white herring in sour cream sauce. Sour cream sauce contains milk. Wine sauce doesn’t. So, milk is not declared as an ingredient or an allergen on the Wild Herring in Wine Sauce label. That’s not a problem if you don’t have a milk allergy. If you do have a milk allergy, that’s a bigger difference than wine sauce vs. sour cream sauce.
“Any consumer who purchased the product that is allergic to milk or has a sensitivity to milk should not consume the recalled product,” said the company-written recall notice, posted to the FDA site as well as on Publix’s site.
This covers lot No. 03609, with a best-by date of June 26, 2020.
Jars can be returned to the store of purchase. For any questions or to request a refund from Vita Food Products, call 800-989-8482, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Eastern time.
