Twenty-twenty-six home design has been all about what feels uniquely personal and one-of-a-kind, but some interior trends are gaining popularity across the board. A new report from leading digital home services marketplace Angi reveals that particular styles, living spaces and priorities are leading the way for homeowners around the world. Based on a survey of nearly 5,000 homeowners across ten countries, some of its findings might surprise you.

"Homeownership isn't one-size-fits-all," said Angie Hicks, cofounder of Angi, in a statement. "This study shows that while homeowner habits vary widely around the world, the motivations behind them are often surprisingly similar."

Light and Natural Aesthetics Are Becoming More Popular

According to Angi, homeowners worldwide are leaning toward light, natural aesthetics. Details like warm woods, soft neutrals and clean lines are all becoming more common, with the style leading the charge in South Korea and the Netherlands.

Outdoor Spaces Are a Top Priority

Around the world, outdoor spaces are among the most valued home features. In fact, half of the countries included in the study considered it "the most essential space in a home."

American Homeowners Are Focused on Maintenance and Comfort

A vast majority of U.S. homeowners are proactive in improving and maintaining their homes-with 72 percent renovating their houses to maintain their condition and over half making repairs themselves. Comfort also matters, since nearly half of respondents considered the living room "the heart of the home," and design choices channel simplicity and warmth.

France Is Leading the Way In DIYs

Out of all the countries surveyed, France leads the way in DIYs. A majority of French homeowners renovate their spaces for both enjoyment and comfort, the study finds, and make repairs themselves.

People Are Prioritizing Rooms They Use the Most

Laundry rooms can be easy to overlook, but Angi finds they're increasingly on people's radars, along with garages, utility rooms and guest bedrooms. In other words, the practical spaces homeowners use all the time are getting a closer look worldwide.

"No matter the country," Hicks shared, "people are ultimately trying to create homes that feel functional, personal and supportive of the way they live."
