Maury Povich the Rapper? Plus, He Made the Perfect Pitch for Drake, Nicki, & Cardi B
Remarkably, at 87-years-old, former daytime talk show host Maury Povich just proved he still has a pulse on pop culture. While stopping by to speak with media personality Speedy Morman on his new YouTube series, Slice Joint, Povich may have flexed a hidden talent for rapping. On top of that, he actually commented on some current hip-hop events, offering some interesting suggestions for some of the genre's top acts, including Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, and recent history-maker on the Billboard charts, Drake. So what did he suggest that would require him to come out of retirement?
Maury Povich Raps Famous Lyrics about Himself
On the most recent episode of Slice Joint, Mormon welcomed Povich for a very entertaining discussion. Although they talked about a number of things, including Povich's legacy, it was when Mormon asked him to read off some famous hip-hop Povich-related lyrics that things took a comical turn. Again, Mormon asked Povich to read the lyrics, but Povich himself decided to "rap" them instead.
First up, Povich read off/rapped the lyrics to 50 Cent's "We Up," in which the Grammy-winner penned, "Oops, that's your baby, my bad, I'm sorry. She call me daddy too, we should be on Maury." Immediately, Mormon started laughing, then he confirmed with Povich that he had met 50 Cent for the first time recently.
Is Maury the Key to Squashing Nicki and Cardi Beef?
Then came some lyrics from Minaj. From her verse on the "No Flex Zone (Remix)," Povich recited, "Listen up, ho, this is my territory. You are my son, like an episode of Maury." Now, Povich noted he's never met Minaj, but offered to come out of retirement for her and Cardi B to come on his show and "take the lie detector test" to smooth out all of their well-known issues with one another. Admittedly, not sure how a lie detector test would help, but it would be must-watch TV to see Nicki and Cardi B sitting across from each other on a stage.
Maury Would Love to Sit Down with Drake and Kendrick Lamar
It shouldn't come as a surprise that Drake also name-dropped Maury Povich in a song. On the track, "Own It," as now performed by Povich, Drake once said, "Bunch of journalists been searchin' for a story. My ex-girl been searchin' for a sorry. Couple b*tches tryna have me on the Maury." Povich noted that while he also hasn't met Drake, he'd love to meet him and threw out the idea of Drake and Kendrick joining him on-air to hash out their differences. You can check out a video clip of Povich with Speedy below.
Maury reciting these lyrics he was mentioned in [from Nicki Minaj, 50 Cent, Drake, and J Cole] in this cadence is hilarious
