Universal Kids Resort near Dallas sets July opening date
Universal Kids Resort, a theme park designed for young guests and families, will open to the public July 1 in Texas.
The attraction, announced in early 2023, will be located in Frisco, Texas, about 30 miles north of from Dallas. It’s a project of Orlando-based Universal Destinations & Experiences, the theme-park division of NBCUniversal which is a subsidiary of Comcast.
The park has seven themes, including Shrek's Swamp, Jurassic World Adventure Camp, SpongeBob SquarePants Bikini Bottom, Minions vs. Minions: Bello Bay Club, TrollsFest, Puss in Boots Del Mar and the Isle of Curiosity featuring Gabby’s Dollhouse. The park covers about 20 acres, as opposed to Epic Universe in Orlando, which is about 110 acres.
“It's a destination made for kids and, as a regional theme park, brings Universal’s signature storytelling to families close to home,” Molly Murphy, president of Universal Creative, the company’s design arm, said last year.
Universal Kids Resort includes a 300-room hotel at the entrance of the park.
Tickets, including an annual pass option, are now on sale. The Universal Kids website lists prices for date-specific one-day tickets ranging between $54.99 and $79.99 over the first three months. A two-day ticket runs between $73.99 and $106.99, but it must be used on consecutive days. As of Friday, opening day was listed as sold out.
A silver annual pass, with block-out dates, is being sold for $129.99. That pass includes self-parking costs $164.99.
The Texas resort is part of a wave of attraction expansions for the company. In addition to Epic Universe theme park’s debut last May, Universal Horror Unleashed, a year-round haunt, opened in Las Vegas in August. A second location is planned for Chicago. Universal also is in the midst of planning a theme park to be built in England.
