Black Lab Uses His Floppy Ears as a Wind Detector Becoming the Ultimate Weatherman
When it comes to predicting the weather, Black Labrador parents know you don't need a special app on your phone or your local TV news channel. All you have to do is take your dog outside and check out its ears.
Okay, you may not get an official weather report from your Labrador's ear forecast, but when it comes to assessing a windy day, the dog's big floppy ears are about as reliable as anything.
In a video making some serious headwind on social media, a gorgeous Black Labrador named Ruger can be seen giving the "Ruger Report." As mom or dad captures video of the pup, Ruger relaxes outside on the family farm during a particularly windy day.

Against The Wind - Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band
The dog's ears flap in the wind like the world's most adorable windfinder. It doesn't hurt that the video's soundtrack is Bob Seger's 1980 hit "Against the Wind." Well played, mom and dad. Well played.

Mississippi Girl - Faith Hill
Black Labradors' floppy ears are actually called drop ears. The breed's ears developed over generations through breeding and the biological changes that came with domestication.
Labradors are expert scent trackers, and they cleverly use their big ears as a tool to assist in tracking. When the dog puts its nose to the ground, its ears drop and act almost like scent brooms, sweeping smells toward the dog's nose and making tracking easier.
Oh, and those ears also come in handy if you want to know just how windy it is outside.
More than 170,000 people have liked the now-viral TikTok post, which has already received more than 700 comments and counting. Entertained viewers shared responses to the day's "Ruger Report" with comments ranging from, "That's the kind of boots-on-the-ground journalism we need," to "Hahahaha I love how he's just sitting there calmly, just letting them flap in the wind."
Another added, "Ruger said still not too windy to hang outside."
What seems like a simple cute dog video is actually much more than that. Judging by the comments section, viewers are charmed by the dog's lovley act of enjoying a breezy day outdoors. It's exactly the kind of uplifting content capable of putting wind in your sails and brightening your day.
We can't wait for the next Ruger Report. What about you?
