Netflix Quietly Adding 2024 Crime Thriller '5lbs of Pressure' Next Month

Phil Allocco's 5lbs of Pressure will be making its way to Netflix in the United States on June 21, 2026.

Starring Luke Evans and Rory Culkin, the movie follows an ex-criminal seeking to leave his old life behind, whose plans are upended when a figure from his past comes back looking for revenge. It's a typical story of violence and vengeance, with two strong lead performances that will keep the audience on the edge of their seats.

5lbs of Pressure was originally released on Amazon Prime Video following a limited theatrical run, where it made just $32,000 (via Box Office Mojo). The majority of its financial success was driven by streaming viewership, where it performed strongly for several weeks.

The film received mixed reviews from critics, who generally praised its high-octane spirit and high-energy performances, but felt that Allocco's story lacked the bite necessary for such a violent and crime-ridden aesthetic.

In their review, The Guardian wrote: "This tangle of conflicting interests is sketched out plausibly enough, but just as we've started to get to know these people, it's time to wrap things up [...] It almost feels like an extended pilot for an unmade TV show."

The film was released by Lionsgate Films, which has a long-standing agreement with Amazon MGM for Prime Video to be the eventual streaming home of the entirety of the studio's releases. 5lbs of Pressure was part of this agreement, landing on Prime Video simultaneously with its theatrical release.

However, these kinds of licensing agreements generally have an expiry date, which explains why the film is now coming to Netflix. Streaming platforms like to keep their catalogs fresh, adding and removing films every few months to keep a constant rotation of new titles. The streamer hasn't announced exactly how long 5lbs of Pressure will be available in the United States, but it won't be forever.
