Sweet Cat Trying to ‘Pet the Baby' Just Won't Quit
Bringing home a baby is hard and scary for a million reasons, but for people who also have pets, one of the biggest reasons is our furry friends. You just have no idea if things will go well or not, and they're the two beings you love most in this world!
Luckily, one new family has had exceptional luck with getting their cat and their baby to bond. Honestly, it might be going too well. The cat will not stop trying to pet the baby:

Amy and her new baby had apparently been home for less than an hour when her furry brother decided to try to pet her. As soon as she put the baby down in her crib, he was sticking his paws through the bars. He was probably thinking to himself, "This is a really big kitten!"
He's being gentle about it, which is good: this baby is probably not even a week old yet. Getting hit with a cat paw would really hurt! Amy only lets him near the baby under supervision, though, just to make sure things don't go wrong.

Though this is the first baby the cat has encountered, he's been a big brother for a while. There are a couple of other cats in the house, and evidently, he wasn't this nice to them when they were babies:

The reason for that is pretty simple: human babies don't hit back. Kittens hit back. Hopefully, they get along better now that there's a baby in the mix!
Cats Can Be Gentle With Babies
There are typically two types of cat/baby introductions that go viral: really sweet ones and really spicy ones. There are also a lot of cats who fall somewhere in the middle, though those aren't typically as easy to find.
If you want your cat to be gentle when they meet your baby, you need to be extremely cautious and on top of the entire situation at all times. The key is to prevent:
- Accidents.
- Aggression.
- Fear.
One of the biggest risks in this situation is that your cat will get too close or move too fast or something, which will freak you out. You'll yell, or swat, or shove the cat, purely out of instinct, and that could legitimately sour the relationship forever. Keep them separated by at least a few feet of space, just to be safe!
