Sometimes, even mother bears need a break once in a while!

In an adorable video posted to TikTok, a Black Bear mom was filmed lying back in the grass near a retreat while she gave herself a belly rub. In the video, her two bear cubs were spotted close by to her while she "gave herself a good ol' scratch." The cubs ended up playing together while their mother took a well-deserved break.

Why 'Self-Care' Helps Mother Animals Survive in the Wild

Mothers animals in the wild are best known to be fiercely protective of their babies. According to One Earth, animal mothers in the wild are "biologically programmed to preserve their species by protecting and caring for their young" no matter the cost.

The Kodiak Bear Center reveals that mother bears are no exception when it comes to protecting their young. Mothers are "constantly on the lookout for danger, whether it's from other bears, particularly adult males, or other predators."

So even though the mother bear that lay back in the grass seemed to take a quick break, she's still on high alert and won't hesitate to act in an instant to protect her cubs from any threats.

"She will not hesitate to defend her young, and her size and strength make her a formidable opponent," the center explained. "This constant vigilance teaches the cubs to be aware of their surroundings and to recognize potential threats."
