Carlos Alacarz Won't Play French Open After Medical Testing

Earlier this week tennis star Carlos Alcaraz revealed he was set to undergo further testing on a wrist injury that saw him withdraw from the Barcelona Open.

"We'll have to wait and see," Alcaraz said. "The next test will be crucial, so to speak. We are trying to do everything that is in our power so that test turns out well."

He admitted he was attempting to remain patient.

"I am trying to have a lot of patience these days, but we are fine. We are there waiting a little bit. We have some tests coming up in a few days, and from there, we will see how the injury is and what steps to take next. For now, I'm trying to stay positive, to stay upbeat, although these days are getting long."

Carloz Alcaraz Won't Play in French Open

On Friday, April 24, Alcaraz took to social media to announce he will not be competing in the French Open to defend his title.

"After the results of the tests carried out today, we have decided that the most prudent thing is to be cautious and not participate in Rome and Roland Garros, while we wait to assess the evolution to decide when we will return to the court. It's a complicated moment for me, but I'm sure we'll come out stronger from here," he announced.

Alcaraz is the two-time defending champion of the French Open after having defeated Alexander Zverev in 2024 and Jannik Sinner in 2025.

Following his withdrawal in Barcelona, Alcaraz admitted the injury was "more serious" than initially anticipated.

"From today's tests, it's a slightly more serious injury than we all expected," he said. "And, honestly, I need to listen to my body, to do what's best for me, so it doesn't impact me in the future."

The French Open kicks off on May 18.
