Kate Hudson on Goldie Hawn's Influence and Her Lifechanging Advice
When it comes to famous mother-daughter relationships in Hollywood, celebrity duos like Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli, Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher and Blythe Danner and Gwyneth Paltrow may come to mind. But here at Woman’s World, we can’t get enough of Kate Hudson and Goldie Hawn. Not only are the two hilarious, but they are also strong women who have refined what it means to be an actress in Hollywood. And now, Hudson is opening up about how they’ve done that. Keep reading to find out what Hudson said about her mom and more.
Kate Hudson opens up about her parents
Hudson was born in 1979 to Hawn and Bill Hudson. The couple divorced in 1982, and Hawn has been with actor Kurt Russell since 1983.
“I grew up with an amazing mother, and I know she was the first female movie star to produce her own movies, and she had to fight for everything,” Hudson said at the Time100 Summit, where she was honored as one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People. “So growing up, it was like, ‘You just go in and you fight for what you think is right. If you have a feeling, you don’t stop until you understand.’”
“Now looking back at all of it, I think that the fight is really important. It’s much more important than waiting to just get a job and stand on your mark. So yes, so I did fight for a lot of those things,” the Running Point actress continued. “I need to be the narrator of my own story, do the things and be courageous enough to say no, and then to do the things that I’m really passionate about.”
Another person who taught Hudson the value of hard work was her father.
“My father would always say, ‘you’re one job away from a shift.’ And I think that happens all the time. And our business is so tumultuous, like growing up in it, you kind of see it for what it is,” Hudson said. “It’s a constant roller coaster. So when anybody’s writing an article about me, it’s probably a good sign, no matter what because it means you’re relevant. It means I might have a couple more years of getting hired.”
Kate Hudson spills details on her favorite guest stars
Hudson has spent most of her life in the industry and met countless celebrities along the way—but Jake from State Farm, who will make an appearance in Season 2 of her hit Netflix show Running Point—holds a special place in her heart.
“The most famous person to come to our set was Jake from State Farm,” the actress said of his Season 2 cameo. “He’s such a nice guy. I think it was his first time actually being on a show and I felt very excited that we were his first.”
Also appearing in Season 2 of Running Point is an A-list comedy icon who certainly knows his way around a TV set: Ray Romano, best known for his work in Everybody Loves Raymond and the Ice Age series.
“He’s so wonderful, and we got so lucky to have him on the show,” Hudson said of Romano. “He’s awesome, wonderful, sweet and funny.”
