A household full of cats has taken social media by storm after a short video captured their reaction to a familiar sound.

The viral clip, shared on Instagram on Monday under the username @drmsbooksandcats, shows the felines looking calm, spread out around the living room and minding their own business. That calm lasts only seconds. As soon as the automatic feeders activate and food drops, everything changes at once.

The moment the feeders can be heard, all eight cats launch into motion. They sprint across the room, running toward the feeders at full speed, creating an almost-unbelievable scene that unfolds in a blur of movement.

Text displayed directly on the video says, “Watch what my eight cats do when their automatic feeder drops the food,” the on-screen message reads, moments before the frenzy begins.

The caption adds: “Schedule feeding means you have an eight-cat mad dash to the automatic feeders every day. Caution: don’t play this video by your pavlovian conditioned cats or they WILL run for the feeder again and meow, as mine did.”

Felines need a balanced, meat-based diet suited to their age, health and lifestyle, as they cannot survive on vegetarian food. Owners should feed appropriate amounts, adjusting to prevent underweight or obesity, and follow food guidelines carefully.

Cats naturally prefer several small meals daily rather than one large portion. Fresh water must always be available, as it is essential for health. Food and water should be kept away from litter trays.

Any changes in eating or drinking habits may indicate illness and require veterinary advice.

The video quickly went viral on social media after being posted. It has so far earned more than 450,000 views and over 20,000 likes on Instagram, with countless viewers stopping to watch the moment play out again and again.

One user, Bet.han03, commented: “I never knew the theory behind cats acting like they haven’t been fed for 7 days.”

Hammondwessels said: “Lol. Sounds like a casino when you hit the jackpot!”

Mrknight24 added: “They said quit the small talk.”
