Phil Collins and Oasis Have Had a Bitter Feud For Years-Now They're Entering the Hall of Fame Together
Whenever a new class of inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is announced, the social media debates and celebrations rage on. This year has been no exception. In this case, one topic that is missing from most of the discussion is the fact that two of the inductees, Phil Collins and Noel Gallagher of Oasis, have bitterly feuded for years.
The Long History of the Phil Collins and Oasis Feud
Each new generation of music artists replaces the stars of yesteryear, and it isn't that rare for some of them to insult the people who came before them. Even with that history in mind, the ways that Noel Gallagher has repeatedly targeted Phil Collins have been extremely harsh.
When American Songwriter listed four musicians that Gallagher hated, it named Collins. The outlet quoted one of the Oasis member's most extreme statements about the rock legend. "We're gonna get rid of Phil Collins and Sting. Junk food music, McDonald's music, we've got to get in the charts and stamp them out. I want the severed head of Phil Collins in my fridge by the end of this decade. And if I haven't, I'll be a failure."
Gallagher also famously called Collins the "antichrist." After that remark garnered a lot of attention, he downplayed it and then insulted the iconic '80s singer again in the same statement. "It was a flippant comment about him being the antichrist. I'll admit, they look bad in print. I probably gave a balanced view of Phil Collins that day, but what looks good is the bit about him being the antichrist. But Phil Collins knows he can't say anything about me because I'm the bollocks. And the fact that he's bald."
On another occasion, Gallagher claimed he was going to vote Labour partially because he wanted to stop Collins from returning to the U.K. "I'll be voting Labour because I think it's morally right. Another reason to vote Labour is if the Conservatives get in, Phil Collins is threatening to come back and live here. And let's face it, none of us wants that."
Those are only three examples of the times that Gallagher has targeted Collins publicly. For his part, Collins has mostly stayed quiet on the subject, but he once called both Gallagher brothers "horrible" during a talk show appearance. "They're just horrible guys. They're rude and not as talented as they think they are. They keep having a go at me, which I find strange."
While talking to The Times' Saturday Review in 2023, Gallagher explained that he began to resent Collins when one of his songs kept a The Jam track from reaching No. 1. He also noted that Collins' kids once confronted Liam Gallagher, because they mistakenly thought he was the one who'd been publicly insulting their father.
"He kept the Jam off No 1 with 'You Can't Hurry Love.' I thought, ‘Once I get there, I'm not going to let him get away with that.' The best thing about the Phil Collins thing is that Liam got accosted by his children one day because they thought he was me. They had a pop at him, saying, ‘Why are you always having a f*****g go at our dad?' When I heard about it I thought, ‘I really hope someone filmed it.' Anyway, f**k Liam. And f**k Phil Collins and all."
After years of feuding, the news that Oasis and Phil Collins will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on the same night is a stunning turn of events.
