Apple Could Be Integrating a Coveted Samsung Feature-What to Know
A popular feature on Samsung devices might make an appearance on Apple devices in the coming years, according to a report.
X account Ice Universe, which has more than 582,000 followers on the platform, cited a February 16 report from market-research firm Omdia saying that, “Samsung Electronics' latest privacy display technology, introduced in the Galaxy S26 Ultra, is also expected to be applied to AppleMacBooklaptops by 2029.”
Why it Matters
As a company and brand, Apple has placed a great deal of emphasis on privacy over the years-both in its product design and in its advertising.
Protecting user data is a major talking point and has driven ads like 2025’s “Flock” campaign, in which bird-like cameras fly around tracking people in a dystopian setting.
The crux of Apple’s pitch is simple: The company says it doesn’t sell data to third-party distributors and it doesn’t share your data for marketing purposes.
“Privacy is a fundamental human right,” Apple’s website says.
“It’s also one of our core values. Which is why we design our products and services to protect it.”
Privacy display technology is a logical next step for the tech giant, tying together its emphasis on data privacy with an emphasis on privacy in the real world.
What to Know
Samsung’s new Privacy Display tech adds another layer to an already popular feature.
Previously, Samsung devices would hide an entire screen from viewers looking at it from an angle. For instance, if a user was on a flight, a stranger sitting in the seat next to them would not be able to see any of the user’s screen.
With the pending release of the S26 Ultra however, expected later this spring, Samsung may add localized privacy control to its privacy features, making it possible to pick and choose what to hide and what to leave public to strangers looking at the phone from an angle.
In other words, if you want the person sitting next to you to see the TV show you are watching-but not a potentially sensitive text when it arrives-the new Samsung screen technology could provide you with that option.
The report referenced MacBooks, but notably, iPhones have used Samsung screen technology for years. Since the iPhone X in 2017, Apple has relied on Samsung technology for its OLED panels.
What’s Next
The S26 Ultra is expected sometime in March 2026.
The potential release of a MacBook with Privacy Display appears to be far down the road, if it ever materializes.
