Is Taylor Swift good, bad or irrelevant to the NFL? Here’s what a former Dolphin thinks
Is Taylor Swift good, bad or irrelevant to the National Football League?
That’s the question The Sports Geek posed to former Miami Dolphin and Hall of Famer Cris Carter recently about the pairing of Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
Kelce, a two-time Super Bowl champion, is famed on the football field and took a handoff from Swifties by attending one of her shows on The Eras Tour and making a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it in July in hopes of meeting her.
That didn’t happen. Then.
But, as anyone awake knows by now, the pair have since become BFFs.
Swift, who starts the second North American leg of her Eras Tour with three sold-out concerts at Miami Gardens’ Hard Rock Stadium in October 2024, and whose concert film, “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,” became the highest grossing concert movie ever on its opening weekend alone after its Oct. 13 bow, is generating frenzy every time she appears at a Chiefs game to watch Kelce play.

But is this good for football?
The Sports Geek asked Carter, 57, a Dolphin during the 2002 season and former Philadelphia Eagles (1987-89) and Minnesota Vikings (1990-2001) wide receiver his thoughts on Swift, the NFL and the Kelce-Swift match.
Here’s what he told the sports betting site, The Sports Geek:
“Well, it’s definitely not irrelevant and I don’t think it’s bad for the sport,” Carter said. “I believe in love and however you can find it, I’m all about it. Both of them are single, both of them are available, I don’t see anything wrong with it.”
Is Swift a boost for Travis Kelce?
“Like Travis is a star. I mean he had commercials and won Super Bowls before her. It wasn’t like she kicked his credibility up, and she’s one-of-a-kind. I mean, she’s amazing. She’s a beast, so if her fans weren’t familiar with football and want to be familiar with football, I’m all for it,” Carter said.
Music and football’s relationship
“We’ve had a collaboration with NFL and music for a long, long time,” Carter said. “The music might be a little bit more different. It might be a little more urban, a little more rock ’n’ roll and a little more country, not as poppy as her but ... there’s nothing better than watching NFL highlights to music. I think it’s a great collaboration.”
A natural pairing
“It’s like these kind of things happen behind the scenes all the time. I’ve had several teammates that dated stars in the past. I’m not going to say who they who they were, and I’ve been in hotels with NFL teams and seen several ladies that look familiar, like they had been on a stage or a screen somewhere. Nothing’s new to the game. Nothing’s new.”
