Bob Saget’s family says the comedian and actor died from head trauma in Florida, reports say

Bob Saget hit his head on something the night he died and “thought nothing of it” before falling asleep, the family said in a statement, according to multiple news outlets.

Saget, who was 65, died Jan. 9. in a hotel room at the Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grand Lakes.

The actor and comedian was known for his role as Danny Tanner in the 1990s show Full House. He also hosted America’s Funniest Home Videos for almost 10 years, from 1989 to 1997. He was set to play a comedy show in West Palm Beach at the Palm Beach Improv.

Until now, the cause of Saget’s death was unknown. On Wednesday, Saget’s family shared what they had learned with his fans, according to Entertainment Tonight:

“Now that we have the final conclusions from the authorities’ investigation, we felt it only proper that the fans hear those conclusions directly from us,” the statement said. “The authorities have determined that Bob passed from head trauma. They have concluded that he accidentally hit the back of his head on something, thought nothing of it and went to sleep. No drugs or alcohol were involved.”

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said a call came in reporting that there was an unresponsive man. The released 911 call detailed a Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes staff member telling a dispatcher Saget had no pulse.

According to CNN, his widow Kelly Rizzo told “Good Morning America” during an interview that her husband appeared to be in good health before his death.
