‘I have cancer’: Florida TV reporter reveals diagnosis after a viewer noticed something
A Florida TV reporter is giving her thanks to an eagle-eyed viewer who may have saved her life.
Victoria Price, with WFLA-TV in Tampa, tweeted that she was diagnosed with cancer after a viewer alerted her to a possible health condition, a lump on her neck, while watching the journalist on the air.
The post said that a thyroid cancer survivor emailed her last month alerting Price that her lump resembled the one she had before being diagnosed.
Price confirmed that she, too, was diagnosed with the same type of cancer and will now be taking medical leave.
“‘A bit of personal news to share. Turns out, I have cancer,” read her post Thursday. “And I owe it to one of our wonderful @WFLA viewers for bringing it to my attention.”
In a longer post, the San Diego native says the surgery, despite being delayed due to coronavirus, is set for Monday. Her doctor will remove the tumor, the thyroid and a couple of nearby lymph nodes. She was told the cancer has spread, but “not too much.”
She remains hopeful that the operation will be the “first and last procedure.”
This is hardly the first time a viewer has noticed a serious problem with a TV personality.
Last year, “Inside Edition” host Deborah Norville underwent surgery to removed a cancerous nodule on her thyroid after a viewer pointed out a lump.
And back in 2013, “Flip or Flop” host Tarek El Moussa was diagnosed with Stage 2 thyroid cancer when a fan, who happened to also be a registered nurse, noticed a mass on the star’s neck.
