Well, hello. Looks like Derek Jeter is going to be a fixture around these parts.

On Friday, Miami Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria agreed to sell the franchise for $1.2 billion to a group led by the retired New York Yankees star, according to widespread media reports. The deal needs approval by the MLB’s 30 owners, but we over at Miami.com are already giddy about this situation.

We’ve lost some of our biggest sports stars over the years — LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O’Neal. So it will be nice to see some serious star power again. Jeter is all that.

He’s not a party guy, really. Married to Sports Illustrated model Hannah Davis, who is expecting their first child together (a girl), the former baller doesn’t seem as if he’ll be making the nightclub rounds. Davis has been in Miami in the past for work (celebrating the SI Swim Issue) and pleasure (shopping at Bal Harbour Shops).

The couple, who married in Napa Valley last summer, is tight. In a blog announcing her pregnancy back in February, Caribbean beauty Davis (she is from St. Thomas) admitted she knew nothing about her athlete husband when they first met. She thought the amiable athlete referred to as “The Captain” was a pitcher. Seriously.

The model finally understood the game and his immense star power when she saw his rabid fans at Yankee Stadium (not to mention all the signs asking to marry him).

Their daughter, as well as future kids down the line, is going to live a “normal” life despite the shortstop’s legacy.

“They’re going to be born into such an extraordinary situation. They’re going to have to be some strong little people,” Davis wrote. “We don’t want them to be defined by their dad’s name — for them, we want him to just be ‘Dad.’ That will be the piece of him they’ll have that the rest of the world doesn’t. It will be special, and it will be theirs.”
