London is calling, but unfortunately, United Airlines will not be answering.

Travel Pulse reports that the airline has made the decision to cease its nonstop service between Boston and Heathrow in London, starting October 29 of this year.

Despite the service having only launched in 2022, it seems that competition from other airlines and lower airfare informed the move. At least five other airlines provide service from Boston to London, including budget carrier Norse. American and Delta were also major competitors within the market, as they both have partnerships with British Airways and Virgin Atlantic to London, respectively. Although United had a daily nonstop flight, it couldn’t hold its own.

United backing out of this market makes sense as it is currently a destination high on the list of Delta travelers. Detour reported earlier this month that London was the most-searched destination for the airline, based on search data. Because of increased demand, Delta is providing 20 percent more tickets to the British city compared to the number of tickets available for purchase in summer of 2019.

Although United has backed out of this market in Boston, it is still upping the ante for the busy summer travel season. Detour also reported that the airline has increased the number of flights to international destinations by 25 percent and that bookings for United are up 15 percent compared to last summer. To account for the demand in travel this summer, the airline will offer service to 114 overseas destinations, with two dozen of those flights heading to London Heathrow every day.
