London has always been a sought-after vacation spot, but this summer the frenzy has reached new heights. According to Travel & Leisure, who referenced Delta Airlines data, travelers sought for summer holidays to the British city more than any other overseas destination this year. Delta will provide 20% more tickets to London than it did during the summer of 2019 to meet the surging demand.

After London, the second most popular international travel destination for the summer was Cancun, followed by Paris, Rome, and Tokyo (Delta recently started service from Los Angeles to Tokyo). Searches for Amsterdam, Montego Bay in Jamaica, Athens, Los Cabos, and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic completed the list.

The information was derived from queries made between November 2022 and March 2023 on Delta.com for travel between June and August of the current year.

Delta’s international flights are filling up fast for the summer season, with a reported 75 percent of bookings already secured last month. Due to insufficient availability, rising fuel prices, and increased demand, the price of an international flight is on track to hit a level not seen in five years.

Tripadvisor recently surveyed its users and also provided the results to Travel + Leisure, finding that eighty-two percent of the participants plan to travel within the next three months regardless of the price increases. Sixty percent of those surveyed indicated they planned to increase their summer spending over the previous year.

Planning intelligently is the best course of action if saving money is a goal and a foreign trip is planned for this summer. For instance, hotel rates in Paris are at their lowest from June 19 to June 25, while those in London are at their lowest from August 28 to September 3, according to a statement sent to the outlet by Alice Jong, a senior analyst for research and insights at Tripadvisor.
