Disneyland Resort in Southern California has announced that it will commemorate Black Music Month in June with live music shows, fan favorite “Celebrate Soulfully” events and specialized food and drink items that celebrate Black heritage and culture.

TravelPulse highlights that there will be a special exhibit honoring Frederick Douglass – a prominent leader in the nation’s abolitionist movement, renowned writer, statesman, and social reformer – at the sole and well-known original Disneyland Park’s Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln attraction in the Main Street Opera House. Visitors to Disneyland Park can also take advantage of some year-round “Celebrate Soulfully” activities, like the ongoing “Tale of the Lion King” stage production at Fantasyland Theatre.

A special menu of snacks and quick bites with African influences can be found next door at the Troubadour Tavern food stand. At Disney California Adventure Park’s Award Wieners, you can get soul food-inspired meals like the BBQ Hot Link Sandwich and Strawberry Cheesecake Funnel Cake Fries à la Mode. At the same time, the nearby Studio Catering Co. food truck serves up its distinctive take on the Shrimp Po’Boy sandwich. Between June and July 4, 2023, all are accessible for a brief time.

Guests can also visit the Avengers Campus, which is themed after the Marvel Cinematic Universe and features encounters with Black Panther, lessons in ancient African wisdom, and training in combat from General Okoye of Wakanda’s powerful all-female royal guard, the Dora Milaje.

With 17 different groups of artists scheduled to perform four sets each night, the Downtown Disney LIVE! Stage, located outside the parks, will feature nightly musical performances from bands in various styles, including Caribbean, Mid-Century Jazz, and Jazz Fusion. Daily live music performances are also planned at the Hollywood Backlot Stage in Disney California Adventure Park and on the pool deck at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, adjacent to the park, through June 30.

Visit Disneyland’s website for more details and a full schedule of Black Music Month celebrations at Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park, Downtown Disney District, and the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort beginning next month. These events and more are part of the Celebrate Soulfully offerings and experiences.
