Miami Heat expected to sign former Boston Celtics forward
The Miami Heat is expected to finalize a one-year, $1.5 million guaranteed deal with former Celtics power forward Jordan Mickey in the coming days, bringing the team’s roster to 17 players. The Vertical reported the deal first, which includes a team option for the 2018-19 season.
Mickey played in 41 games with the Celtics over his first two NBA seasons, averaging 1.4 points and 1.1 rebounds. He also played in four playoff games for Boston.
Mickey (6-8, 236) appeared in eight of the Celtics’ first 19 games last season before he went down to the D-League for various assignments. He scored a season-high eight points in 19 minutes against Denver on Nov. 6 and then made his first career start as a fill-in for the injured Amir Johnson on Jan. 11.
Mickey was taken with the 33rd pick in the 2015 draft by the Celtics out of LSU and was a D-League All-Star in 2016.
NBA teams are allowed to sign up to 20 players for training camp. Rosters are then trimmed down to 15 players by the end of the preseason.
