Dramatic video shows neighbors dousing flaming cop car after joyride turned fatal
A man in a stolen police cruiser crashed into several cars, killing himself and injuring a mother and her two children, police say.
A Miami-Dade police officer showed up to investigate something unrelated near Southwest 16th Street and 107th Avenue just before 2 p.m. Saturday.
While she wasn’t looking, someone stole her marked police car, she said. Minutes after reporting the theft, she heard on the radio a marked police car crashed just blocks away.
Police said the driver, who has not been named, lost control as he drove east on Southwest 24th Street. He sideswiped a Honda Civic and was then T-boned by a Chevy Suburban headed west.
The cop car crumpled on impact, killing the man inside. The drivers of the Civic and Suburban were unhurt, but a 29-year-old mother and her children — aged 8 and 2 — inside the Suburban were hospitalized. The family is in serious but stable condition, police said.
