Coral Gables cop relieved of duty after domestic violence allegation
A Coral Gables police officer has been taken off the streets as the city’s police department investigates a domestic violence allegation against him, Coral Gables police said Friday.
Officer Manuel Rivero, who has worked on the Coral Gables police force for 17 years, was relieved of duty after an alleged domestic violence incident occurred in South Miami Friday afternoon, said Chief Edward J. Hudak Jr.
Rivero is on paid administrative leave during the investigation, per the department’s policy, Hudak said.
South Miami police, working with the Miami-Dade County state attorney’s office, is leading the criminal investigation, Coral Gables police said in a statement. Coral Gables’ Internal Affairs division is also investigating Rivero’s use of his marked police car, which he allegedly used to leave the area of the incident, Hudak said.
