In a possible smuggling operation, migrants land on Fisher Island
A boat with 17 to 20 migrants reached Fisher Island on a “go-fast” vessel on Friday morning, and the U.S. Border Patrol said it might be part of a smuggling operation.
U.S. Border Patrol confirmed that there is currently a multi-agency investigation.
A report from Fisher Island Security via the Miami Police Department at 7:30 a.m. gave the Border Patrol a heads up about a possible smuggling operation happening on Fisher Island. The vessel wasn’t any kind of raft, however.
“Initial reports indicate that there are between 17-20 migrants of unknown nationality and a ‘go-fast’ type vessel hard aground,” U.S. Border Patrol Division Chief Todd Bryant said.
This is a developing news story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
