About two weeks after a man was shot and killed in his car at a Miami-Dade flea market, deputies caught the alleged murderer on Thursday and uncovered a sordid tale of a five-year affair that led to the murder.

Omar Rene Aguila, 69, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder with a weapon and possessing a firearm by a convicted felon. It was unclear if he was still in jail Friday night.

On July 12, Miami-Dade Sheriff’s deputies rushed to Northside Shopping Center, at 7900 NW 27th Ave., and found a man shot inside a car. The unidentified man was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he later died.

Investigators discovered that his murder stemmed from a romantic affair between the man and Aguila’s wife that began in 2019, which came to light, an arrest report read.

In April 2024, Aguila learned of their relationship and warned his wife to end it. Two days before the shooting, the man went to Aguila’s house to speak to his wife, but was confronted by him instead.

Aguila, his wife and son were at the shopping center when the man showed up, the report read. While he was there to deliver food to a friend, he took the opportunity to try to talk to Aguila’s wife again.

His son told him what was happening, and while mounted on a blue mobility scooter, Aguila made his way toward the man’s car. A short argument broke out before Aguila pulled out a gun and shot him multiple times, the report said.

He was detained by deputies, but was released at the time “pending further investigation.” Surveillance video showing the shooting and no gun in the victim’s car ultimately led to Aguila’s Thursday arrest.
