Coast Guard calls off search for man who fell off cruise ship near Key Largo
The Coast Guard suspended a search Sunday evening for a Texas man who had plunged 100-feet from a cruise ship two-days earlier off the coast of Key Largo.
At 11p..m. Friday, the Coast Guard received a report that David Mossman, 46, had fallen from the 10th deck of the Royal Caribbean Navigator of the Seas.
The Coast Guard searched 2,583 square nautical miles -- about 3,000 miles, -- to no avail.
“We want to extend our condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Mossman as the decision to suspend a search is never an easy one to make and is done with great care and deliberation,” said Chris Eddy, search-and-rescue technical specialist at the Coast Guard 7th District in a statement. “Unfortunately, despite our best efforts and an exhaustive search, our crews were unable to locate him.”
