Eight charged in gang rape
A 16-year-old girl thought she’d be hanging out with just her boyfriend, James Dorelus, when she went with him to an abandoned Fort Lauderdale house May 4. This notion disappeared when seven of the Dorelus’ friends appeared.
A gang rape lasting several hours ensued, she told Fort Lauderdale police. Police found the girl with some of her a T-shirt tied around her waist and legs, covering the area usually covered by the pants and underwear she said the males had taken.
Police arrested the eight males Tuesday. Three — Woolvens Bazile, who turned 18 Saturday; Stervenson Isma, who’ll turn 17 in two weeks; and Amazan Robensky, who turned 17 on Wednesday — will be tried as adults. Each faces seven counts of sexual battery.
Isma told police in an interview two weeks after the alleged attack that he wasn’t even there and didn’t know anything about it. The young woman picked Bazile out of a photo lineup and another of the eight identified him as participating in the alleged rape.
In addition to some of her clothes, she said they also took $20 cash, her debit cards, a Walmart gift card and her cellphone. Police say someone in the gang also took a video, authenticated by the girl and several of the gang, that showed Dorelus having intercourse with the young woman while Isma is “observed attempting to force her to perform oral sex on him,” Isma’s arrest affidavit said.
