1 killed when gas pump catches on fire in Dania Beach
A driver slammed into a gas pump at a Dania Beach BP station Tuesday night, killing one person, shearing off the fuel pump and sending car parts flying more than 50 feet, fire rescue officials said.
The fire happened at about 9:20 p.m. Tuesday at 701 S. Federal Hwy., Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles said.
“It was a pretty impressive fire,’’ he said. “Had anyone been in the area fueling at that time we could have had more fatalities or injuries.’’
Traffic homicide detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office are investigating. It was not immediately clear who caused the crash.
The dead person has not been identified.
