The slicing of the ready-to-eat deli meat revealed the metal inside
No ingredient listing for sausage includes “aluminum.” But that might be included in some 2017 runs of Battistoni Italian Specialty Meats sausages, so the company recalled 22,630 pounds of sausage products Friday.
This recall covers lots 31B and 05A of 18.9-pound packs of Battistoni Genoa Salami With Wine with Sell By dates of 2/21/18, 2/23/18, 2/27/18, 3/2/18 and 8/17/18; and lot 33D of 15-pound packs of Battistoni Hot Cooked Capocollo Boneless Pork Shoulder Butt Coated with Spices & Paprika with a Sell By date of 11/19/17. They were shipped to food service establishments in Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
“The issues were found during preparation and slicing of product at the retail level,” the USDA recall notice states. “The product is a (ready-to-eat) product, and is generally sliced thin as a typical deli meat.”
An aluminum clip found in the sausage by a retailer on Wednesday spurred the fourth recent not-food-in-your-food recall of the last two weeks.
Also, Friday, Merkt’s recalled a cheese spread for plastic. Publix store brand ground turkey got infiltrated with metal shavings. J & B Sausage Company, Inc. recalled over 12,000 pounds of H-E-B Fully Cooked Smoked Seasoned Shredded Beef with BBQ sauce when a consumer found plastic in the product.
These kind of recalls seem to come in bunches. There were six in April, including golf ball parts in hash browns and rubber in frozen taquitos followed by three in June.
