Hey, Miami: We’re got more drama with new reality show ‘Baller Wives’
We’ve got liftoff.
“Baller Wives” premiered last week and will hit your television sets again 10 p.m. Monday on VH1.
What we have gleaned from this flashy eye candy of a TV show: Lots of drama, fighting, tight dresses, high heels, long nails and great views of South Florida.
The surprisingly large cast is made up mostly of NFL standouts and their spouses as well as a few sideliners.
Unlike “WAGS” or “Basketball Wives,” the women are actual spouses with rings and legal paperwork and prenups and stuff.
The cable network says the series highlights “pro athletes and their wives as they navigate love, family, business and balling in the world where relationships are complicated and the competition between neighbors is thick.”
Some wives get along; others obviously don’t. Or else there would be no plot.
Duh.
Among the main players is Kijafa Vick, wife of controversial former quarterback Michael Vick and also an executive producer; Stacey Chambers, the onetime mistress-now spouse of onetime Miami Dolphin Chris Chambers; and the outspoken Miko Grimes, aka Mrs. Brent Grimes (remember her arrest at Sun Life Stadium after going into a restricted area back in 2015?). Miko’s hubby is now with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and is not seen in promotional materials. Marital strife? Who knows? Miko is definitely one not to be ignored, but pals insist the radio sports talk show host is not as high drama as she seems.
“Viewers will get to see a different side of Miko,” said costar Kavita Channe, a sports and entertainment host/producer at a watch party at YOLO in Fort Lauderdale Monday night. “Not the social media persona, but the side that only I and her other close friends know. She is a fantastic mother, super supportive partner to her husband, and really has a passion for speaking up about tough subjects.”
Asked about Chambers, whose hashtag on her social media is #allergictobitches, Channe says she’s feisty for a reason. “Stacey is also all about her family. You don’t want to mess with her and she is always there for her girls — which you get to see a lot of on the show.”
Also in the “Baller Wives” mix: Aja and ex Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder; Kelly and NFL vet Julius Jones; and Jeniva and Asante Samuel, a Fort Lauderdale native who is now focused on boxing; and Megan Clark, wife of Earl Clark, the lone basketballer who now plays for Turkey and stays far away.
The one singleton is Crystal Marie, a mother of one whose famous baby daddy is a big name in sports (we’re digging into who this dude is).
