The man with the hardest job in the world is coming to town for the Miami Book Fair.
And no, he’s not a politician. He’s Trevor Noah, the South African-born comedian who has the simultaneously enviable and uneviable job of stepping into the shoes of Jon Stewart, host of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show.”
Noah, who took over “The Daily Show” in 2015, will talk about “Born a Crime,” (Spiegel & Grau, $28), his memoir about growing up during the waning days of apartheid in South Africa (Noah, with a white Dutch father and black Xhosa mother, was literally born illegal). Tickets ($40) go on sale Sept. 20 and include a copy of the book.
But Noah’s appearance is only one of the big events of the day. At 4 p.m. kids’ author Eoin Colfer — you know him as the author of the Artemis Fowl series — will talk about his latest book, “Iron Man: The Gauntlet.” Later in the evening, journalist Jorge Ramos opens the fair’s Spanish language program discussing “Sin Miedo: Lecciones de rebeldes” (“Take a Stand: Lessons from Rebels”).
And if that’s not enough to keep you busy, the party starts at 4 p.m. on everybody’s favorite hangout, The Porch, with food trucks, outdoor games and a community coloring wall, courtesy of “The Wynwood Coloring Book.”
Sample a brew or two from the Biscayne Bay Brewing Company or commission a poem from the creative, fast-thinking Poem Depot writers of The Miami Poetry Collective. Join The New Tropic and get artsy and craftsy with a local artist. Learn how to become a video artist with a lesson in projection mapping from Project Your Idea’s Digital Graffiti Experience. And once Dr. Eduardo Padron, president of Miami Dade College, and fair board chair Mitchell Kaplan officially open the fair at 7 p.m., you can grab a bite to eat at the community barbecue and check out SPEAK! Fridays: The MBF Sunday Edition, an open mic experience (just eat your barbecue before you get up to spit your rhyme).
Miami Book Fair runs from Nov. 13-20 at Miami Dade College, 300 NE Second St. in downtown Miami.
