A man walked out of the U-Pick Auto Parts store in the 8100 block of Northwest 74th Street about 1:40 p.m. Jan. 28 without paying for seve... ral parts that he had tucked into his pants pockets. A police officer who was working while off-duty saw the man trying to conceal something in the pants pockets and then followed him to his car. The officer told the man to place his hand behind his back but the man refused. The officer then tried to handcuff the man, but the man resisted, forcefully pulling the officer toward the vehicle and the officer was hit in the chest. When the officer regained his balance, he pulled a Taser on the man but did not fire. The man then complied and laid on his stomach. The man told the officer he was trying to fix an old car but didn’t have money to buy the parts. The stolen items, which included car fuses and light bulbs, were valued at $46.
