Black History Month

Black History Month is recognized every February in the United States. The designation pays tribute to the generations of African-Americans who struggled to attain full rights in the United States. Black History Month also recognizes the achievements and contributions that Black Americans have made to history, arts and culture, education, medicine, jurisprudence, politics. In 1994, Florida law mandated the teaching of African-American history in the state’s public schools. These are the stories and events that bring Black History Month to life in South Florida.
