Johnathan Ford scored twice in the fourth quarter as the Coconut Grove Titans defeated the Parkland Rangers 22-8 to win the Greater Miami South Florida Pop Warner Junior Midget Division II Super Bowl during the Sean Taylor Classic at North Miami Athletic Stadium.

Tied at eight, Ford had two big runs (one off a broken play) to set-up his own winning 10-yard touchdown jaunt with 3:24 remaining in the game. The defense, which played well throughout, then added to the scoring.

On the ensuing possession, Coconut Grove’s Richard Cook, Cameron Daniel, William Glover Jr. and Derrick Martin combined on one sack, and Keymaree Mays, Paul Mitchell, Quinton Ware, Daniel, Glover Jr. and the Sawyer cousins (Jerrell and Rasaad) followed up with another combined sack in the end zone for a safety.

Leading 16-8, Martin recovered an on-side style kick on the free punt, which led to Ford sealing the victory on a 23-yard touchdown run.

On his scoring runs, Ford utilized key blocks from Willie Cunningham, Rasaad Sawyer and the offensive line, anchored by Martin and Ware.

With 5:11 left in the second quarter, Tijhani Brown gave the Titans a 6-0 lead with a 20-yard touchdown run off a key block by Brett Cortwright. Ford kicked the 2-pointer with Ware on the snap and Cunningham the holder, and Coconut Grove went ahead 8-0.

Parkland’s Gabriel Feliciano-Munoz opened the second half with a 50-yard kickoff return, and a few plays later, Ryan Kavanaugh scored on a run and kicked the 2-pointer to even things at eight.

The Titans (8-1) also beat Parkland (5-4) during the regular season. Their lone loss was to a Division I team.

Traymane Davis scored on a 35-yard run as the Hurricanes went ahead 6-0 in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Hurricanes’ Tieren Brown turned a fake punt into a 20-yard gain. Marcus Barthell had a key run, and Arthur Dellmar completed two passes to Keyvon Brown, the second on fourth-and-goal from the 4-yard line for a touchdown. Dallas Ballard kicked the 2-pointer with Brown the holder, and Miami Youth increased its lead, 14-0, with 1:24 remaining until halftime.

On the ensuing kickoff, Tamiami’s Andre Stringfield returned the ball 80 yards through the middle for a score, cutting the deficit to eight. The Colts nearly scored again before halftime, but time ran out.

Miami Youth opened the third quarter with a 45-yard touchdown run by Barthell for a 20-6 advantage. Tamiami responded, scoring two minutes later on Derrick Wise’s 5-yard run, set-up by Stringfield‘s long run.
